He said making the Home Turn when following LIFE OF STONE, he elected to shift to that runner’s inside to secure clear running as he felt RUBY SAILING was not travelling well enough to improve to the outside on the Home Turn. 6 1 BOWSER (H460) B Avdulla A Pouchin (THRIVING BROTHERS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, resulting in BOWSER losing its running and having to be checked. After assessing the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and having regard to his excellent race riding record, the Stewards determined the appropriate penalty to be a reprimand. After the event, B Avdulla reported that his intention was to hold a forward position with cover behind the leaders. He said when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to allow BOWSER to stride forward and race outside the lead to avoid covering additional ground.
3 2 THRIVING BROTHERS (J396) A Pouchin Raced wide and without cover until the 600 Metres. Hung in in the Home Straight and proved difficult to ride out. A Pouchin pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 150 Metres (see BOWSER).

When they declined to lodge a protest/objection and the Stewards were satisfied that there were not sufficient grounds to do so, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. J McDonald (TELECOM DRAGON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPEEDY SMARTIE, resulting in SPEEDY SMARTIE being checked. Having regard to the special circumstances of this matter, he was fined the sum of $60,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.
