Background: Marco Botti hails from one of the most successful families in Italian racing. His father Alduino, to whom he served three years as assistant, was champion trainer of Italy for more than three decades. Marco rode as an amateur jockey in Italy, riding 48 winners, before continuing his training apprenticeship with Luca Cumani and Ed Dunlop at Newmarket, Saeed bin Suroor in Dubai and Bill Mott in the United States of America. He began training at Newmarket in 2006. Those top class gallopers he has trained included Gitano Hernando , winner of the Goodwood Handicap at Santa Anita in 2009; Excelebration, winner of the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp in 2011 before moving on to Ballydoyle; Joshua Tree, victor of the Canadian International and his American St Leger winner Jakkalberry ran third in the Melbourne Cup. Giavellotto’s victory in the G2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes in July this year was his most recent Group race success. |
