Background: Jerry Chau joined The Hong Kong Jockey Club Apprentice Jockeys’ School in September, 2015. He left Hong Kong in January, 2019 on an overseas placement, to hone his skills with Thoroughbred Racing South Australia where he was indentured to leading training partnership Leon McDonald & Andrew Gluyas. His race-riding career began on 20 March, 2019 and his first win came on 8 May, 2019 in Australia. Chau returned from Australia with 77 wins and kicked off his Hong Kong career with a double on his first day of competitive riding in his home city, scoring aboard Relentless Me and Buddies on 9 May, 2020 at Sha Tin. He completed his first full season in Hong Kong with flying colours, partnering 58 winners to break the previous record set by Matthew Chadwick for the most number of wins scored by an apprentice in a single season. Chau reached the graduation mark with his 70th Hong Kong win in the 2021/22 season. He won his 100th Hong Kong race in 2022/23, while in 2023/24 he performed strongly with 33 wins. |
