2 K089  SWAGGER BRO  19/02/2025   439  SWAGGER BRO (K089) the Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if the horse had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from rider, Trainer and Deputy Starter, it was established that as the start was effected rider had his right arm positioned on the barrier partition whilst he adjusted his right stirrup. As the Stewards were satisfied that the horse was unable to jump with the field as a consequence, they determined that the horse was denied a fair start and as such was declared a non-runner - Race 439.

4 J317  DRAGON FOUR SEAS  16/02/2025   429  DRAGON FOUR SEAS (J317) jumped only fairly. Near the 100M was directed out to continue into clear running - Race 429.

8 J549  MAGIC BEANS  19/02/2025   439  MAGIC BEANS (J549) shifted in slightly at the start and bumped with a runner. From a wide barrier was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When placed under pressure in the early part of the Home Straight lay in and raced greenly - Race 439.
9 J076  SANTORINI  22/01/2025   369  SANTORINI (J076) shifted out at the start, was bumped and became unbalanced. A short distance later was then steadied when crowded. Making the first turn near the 1000M was checked when crowded. After the event, rider stated that as his mount was having its first race start at Happy Valley he was asked to settle the horse where comfortable and not to make use of it to hold a position. He said as a result his mount settled in a midfield position in the early stages. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued - Race 369.

11 J184  SUPER CHARIZZARD  05/02/2025   400  SUPER CHARIZZARD (J184) when questioned regarding his riding, rider stated that the instructions were to take up a position outside the expected leader. He said in the early stages he was obliged to make some use of his mount to cross runners to his inside and as a result his mount was positioned slightly in advance of the 10th placegetter when he obtained a position outside the lead near the 800M. He said as he was positioned slightly in advance of the 10th placegetter he elected to allow his mount to continue forward to cross that runner as he felt it would be a disadvantage to remain racing slightly in advance of the 10th placegetter. He said after crossing the 10th placegetter he then encouraged his mount to improve from that point and after initially responding gave ground in the Home Straight. After considering his explanation, rider was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, his best option would have been to remain racing to the outside of the 10th placegetter and secondly that once he allowed the horse to stride forward of that runner, he should have provided his mount with the opportunity to travel comfortably at that stage rather than continuing to urge his mount forward. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 400.

2 J217  ISLAND BUDDY  09/02/2025   412  ISLAND BUDDY (J217) raced wide and without cover after the 700M. When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages, rider stated that leaving the 50M he felt contact with his mount’s hindquarters and shortly afterwards his mount became unbalanced when there appeared to be further contact on the horse’s left hind leg. He said as a result he looked to his outside to ascertain the reason for that and did not fully test his mount out to the finish of the event. Finished 4th and rider was nonetheless reminded his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race – Race 412.
